E&R History
Elwood Whaley and Rex Nelson originally incorporated E & R, Inc. in December 1970. It was founded by Elwood Whaley, a former employee of the City of Kinston, NC Electric Utility Department in the late 1960’s. The organization began with line workers assisting in small jobs at various industrial sites and military installations. Before incorporation, equipment rental was a necessity. After incorporation, E & R began with one aerial device and three employees. Since then, the company has grown in size and expertise. It now employs experts in many different specialties. It has a fleet of late model Derrick/Diggers with sheave heights up to 55 feet. Aerial devices up to 95 feet, trenchers, directional boring equipment, backhoes, hi-potential test equipment, wire stringing equipment, excavation equipment, and other equipment relating to the electric utility industry.
Our employees are trained in the installation and maintenance of transmission,
distribution of overhead and underground facilities, substations, sporting
lighting, parking lot lighting and emergency power restoration.
Our employees are committed to safety, a high standard of commitment to our clients
in efficiency, honesty, and quality of performance and responsibility. Our employees are provided with a safe
